GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION

  1. SAFETY NOTICES AND WARNINGS
    • Observe and follow all posted safety notices, signs, and warning markers around the property. These are designed to highlight any known risks or restricted areas.
    • Keep an eye out for changing signage or updates at information boards, especially during seasonal changes or maintenance work.
  2. WADING SAFETY
    • Wading is permitted up to thigh depth, except in areas with restricted access, such as dam walls and zones marked with “No Wading” signs.
    • Exercise caution when wading, as sudden drops or slippery rocks may be present. Move slowly and assess depth before stepping further.
  3. LOW WATER LEVELS AND HAZARDOUS GROUND
    • In low water conditions, avoid areas with soft, muddy ground, which can unexpectedly give way.
    • (Stay clear of steep embankments, and avoid walking along river or dam edges where footing may be unstable.
  4. CASTING AWARENESS
    • Before casting, check your surroundings to ensure other anglers, visitors, or animals are not within reach of your line.
    • Avoid casting in crowded areas or near paths where people are likely to pass. Consider the wind direction and strength when casting.
  5. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
    • Keep fishing rods well clear of any overhead power lines, bridges, or structures, especially if using longer rods.
    • During thunderstorms, immediately stop fishing, lay down your rod flat on the ground, and move away from both the rod and any open water areas.
  6. WILDLIFE AWARENESS
    • As an eco-park with diverse wildlife, avoid approaching animals. Sudden movements or interactions can provoke defensive behaviour.
    • Respect all wildlife habitats and nests, and keep a respectful distance, especially from larger animals or birds.
  7. SNAKE SAFETY
    • Watch your step in grassy or bushy areas where snakes may be present, and never attempt to handle or approach them.
    • If you encounter a snake, remain calm, back away slowly, and inform the bailiff or management if it is near common paths or fishing spots.
  8. EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
    • Familiarise yourself with emergency contact points on the estate, such as the bailiff station or visitor centre.
    • In the event of a severe weather warning or wildlife encounter, proceed calmly to a designated safe area and follow bailiff instructions.
  9. FIRST AID AND MEDICAL PREPAREDNESS
    • Carry a small first aid kit, particularly if you are fishing in more remote areas. Include supplies for minor cuts, sprains, and stings.
    • If you have known allergies, particularly to insect bites or stings, carry an antihistamine or epinephrine auto-injector and inform someone in your group.
  10. WEATHER-RELATED CAUTIONS
    • Bailiffs may suspend or cancel fishing due to adverse weather conditions. Always respect these instructions for your safety.
    • Stay alert to sudden changes in weather, and return to sheltered areas if you see lightning, hear thunder, or encounter high winds.
  11. FOOTWEAR AND PERSONAL SAFETY
    • Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear suitable for wet, uneven terrain, which helps reduce the risk of slips, trips, and other injuries.
    • Use appropriate wading boots if entering the water, as these offer better grip and ankle support compared to standard footwear.
  12. SUN PROTECTION
    • Apply a high-SPF sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and dress in lightweight, sun-protective clothing, especially on sunny days.
    • Carry adequate water to stay hydrated, and seek shade or rest breaks to avoid heat exhaustion, particularly in peak summer months.
  13. PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICES (PFDS)
    • Wear a personal floatation device if using float tubes or fishing in deeper areas to ensure buoyancy and safety in case of an accidental slip.
    • Avoid fishing alone in deeper waters or remote areas and notify a friend or bailiff of your planned fishing locations.
  14. REPORTING HAZARDS OR INCIDENTS
    • Report any unsafe conditions, accidents, or hazards, such as damaged equipment, fallen trees, or blocked paths, to the bailiff immediately.
    • Alert the management or bailiff about any concerning animal sightings, particularly aggressive or unwell wildlife, to ensure the safety of all visitors.
